What was before the Horse?

Did you know a Horse wasn't always... well..... a Horse? It's true! Horses used to be MUCH smaller, and different! In this part of the Website, I will tell you all about how the Horse really used to be.

Eohippus

It all started with the Eohippus. The Eohippus was the Earliest ancestor of the Horse/Pony. It had Four toes on it's front feet and Three toes on its back feet.

The Mesohippus had longer legs than the Eohippus and lost a toe. It stood on its middle toe, although the other two were also used. The eyes were rounder, and were set wider apart than in the Eohippus.

Mesohippus

The Merychippus lived in Herds. At the time it was the tallest equine to have existed. The muzzle was longer, and the eyes were wider apart than any other horse-like animal. The brain was also much larger, making it smarter.

Pliohippus

It had two long extra toes on both sides of the hoof, barely visible. The long and slim limbs of the Pliohippus show that it’s a quick-footed animal.

Finally, we are at what we have today. The Modern Horse can come in approximately 267 breeds of Ponies or Horses and all of them are unique in their own way. Finally, they have become what we all Love!
